Motorcycle Chain Roller

The DME Racing Motorcycle Chain Roller is engineered specifically for DME Racing swingarms measuring 72″ or longer. Designed to control chain movement under extreme conditions, the roller helps maintain proper chain tension during suspension compression and hard deceleration, reducing chain whip and improving overall drivetrain stability. By minimizing excessive chain movement, the roller also helps extend chain life and reduce wear on related components.

Installation Guidelines

Placement

For best performance, position the chain roller as close to the rear sprocket as possible while maintaining adequate clearance for the rear tire throughout suspension travel.

Static Pressure

Avoid applying excessive pressure to the chain roller when the motorcycle is at rest. Under deceleration, the lower side of the chain becomes tight, which naturally increases load on the roller. Excessive preload can create unnecessary wear on both the roller and chain.

Drill Size: #7 drill bit (.201″)

Thread Size: 1/4-20 tap required for mounting bolts

Hardware: 1/4-20 bolts

Chain Slack – How Tight Should Your Chain Be?

Chain tension requirements vary depending on motorcycle setup, suspension geometry, wheelbase length, and riding application, so there is no universal specification for every bike.

As a general guideline, most motorcycles operate best with approximately 12.7 mm to 25.4 mm (0.5″–1″) of chain slack. The chain should move freely up and down within that range.

The chain roller should be adjusted to one of the three mounting positions so that the chain contacts the roller only after suspension movement has slackened the chain. Proper adjustment ensures smooth chain control without creating excessive rolling resistance or premature wear.
